Have you ever wondered about your identity? Who are you really? As an Asian person living in America, it can be easy to feel lost in the sea of cultures and expectations. But as a follower of Christ, we have a unique identity that goes beyond cultural boundaries. Here are 10 Bible verses to remind us of our true identity in Christ:
- “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” - 1 Peter 2:9
We are chosen, royal, holy, and God’s special possession. As heirs of the Kingdom, we have a unique purpose and calling. Let us declare His praises with confidence and joy!
- “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17
In Christ, we are new creations. The old has gone, and the new has come. We no longer have to be defined by our past, our mistakes, or our brokenness. We are made new by the power of His love and grace.
- “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” - Galatians 2:20
Our old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us. We now live by faith in the Son of God, who loved us and gave Himself for us. Our identity is rooted in Him and His sacrifice.
- “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” - Psalm 139:13-14
God created us with intention and purpose. We are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. Let us not compare ourselves to others or strive to meet the world’s standards of beauty and success. We are already complete and beautiful in Him.
- “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” - Galatians 3:26-27
As children of God, we have a new identity as heirs of His Kingdom. We have been clothed with Christ and His righteousness. Let us embrace our new identity and walk in the confidence of His love.
- “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” - Colossians 1:13-14
We have been rescued from the dominion of darkness and brought into the Kingdom of the Son. We have been redeemed and forgiven of our sins. Let us not forget the depth of His love and the magnitude of His sacrifice.
- “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’” - Romans 8:14-15
We are no longer slaves to fear, but children of God led by His Spirit. We have been adopted into sonship and can call Him “Abba, Father.” Let us live in the freedom of His love and the joy of His presence.
- “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - Matthew 6:34
We do not have to worry about the future or the uncertainties of life. We can trust in Him and His plan for our lives. Let us focus on each day and live in the peace and security of His love.
- “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 8:38-39
Nothing in this world can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. We are secure in Him and His love. Let us rest in His promises and live in the freedom of His grace.
- “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:33
Let us seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness. Let us prioritize our relationship with Him and trust that He will provide for our needs. We can rest in His provision and His guidance as we navigate this journey of faith.
Remember, our identity is not found in our ethnicity, our nationality, our occupation, or our achievements. Our identity is found in Christ and Him alone. Let us rest in His love and live out our calling with courage and joy.
